“Loka Samasta Sukhino Bhavantu…”

“May all beings everywhere be happy and free and may the thoughts, words and actions of my own life contribute in some way to that happiness and to that freedom for all.”

Have you ever met someone who’s very presence brings a lightness of heart and a calmness of spirit? I have and I am always better for it. Maybe yours was a grandparent, a friend or a mentor. Mine, as you may suspect, have mostly been yoga teachers.

To wish that everyone were happy and free is a Utopian thought. In this ancient text from the Hindu faith it is not enough to simply wish this upon the universe. As important is that the thoughts, words and actions of my life contribute to the happiness and freedom of others!

I believe mine must be a heart that turns fear in to love. I believe fear is the root cause of most unhappiness. The paths I take in thought, word and deed should lead to the good of all and the harm of none. This direction of real love is the path I choose.

What is your path? To whom do you owe your own dedication of effort in this regard? In what ways might you alter your thoughts, your words or your actions to affect the happiness and freedom of those in your universe?
